Biography

Led Astray are the ultimate Led Zeppelin tribute covers band playing the best of their idols for over a decade now. Haunting rock versions of tracks such as 'Kashmir', 'Whole Lotta love' and 'Stairway To Heaven' bring The Zep back to life in a breath-taking show that can last up to a mammoth 3 and a half hours!

Led Astray were formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2006 with one goal - to do justice to the legacy of Led Zeppelin’s live performances. At that time the felt that many of the U.K.’s Led Zeppelin tributes were getting the important details wrong, or missing them out altogether. Details such as completely missing out the use of keyboards in songs like “No Quarter” or “Stairway to Heaven”, the Theremin break in “Whole Lotta Love”, the Violin bowed guitar solo in “Dazed and Confused”. The little details that augmented Zeppelin’s live performances of the late 1960’s and throughout the 1970’s, cementing their reputation as one of the greatest live acts of all time and influenced generations of bands and musicians for the decades to follow.

Led Astray achieve this with the original 4 man line-up. No second guitar player, no additional keyboardist. Everything they do is performed by the dedicated team of singer Ian Burns, guitarist Neil Humphrey, multi-instrumentalist Alistair McBride on bass/keyboards/mandolin and drummer/percussionist Fraser Murray. The band are capable of performing virtually all of Led Zeppelin’s popular repertoire and also like to dig into some of the rarer tracks as featured on the “Remasters” boxed sets or “BBC Sessions” albums. Even now, after nearly ten years gone, they are mining the recent expanded re-issues of Led Zeppelin’s classic albums for new ideas and arrangements.

The band incorporate the popular acoustic sets as performed by Led Zeppelin on their legendary 1975 and 1977 tours. In addition to this, the band often branch out into the expanded improvisational jams that their heroes incorporated into classics like “Dazed and Confused” and “Whole Lotta Love”. As well as the full-on genre defining classic live sets, Led Astray can perform over an hour’s worth of acoustic material featuring everything from the tender ballad of “Going To California” to the country blues stomp of “Black Country Woman” to the Tolkein inspired acoustic rock of “Ramble On”.
